Join Cyclists worldwide in a silent slow – paced ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. We need to raise awareness that we are here and to ask that we all share the road. We will ride 2.5 miles from the parking lot to the Harrisburg Capital Steps where white bicycles will be placed to represent the counties in Pennsylvania and locations where a cyclist was fatally killed in a crash in 2022. There was a total of 14 fatalities in Pennsylvania. This is down from 24 in 2021, however nationally the count is much higher and two tragically happen in Harrisburg, PA. We will remember these two women in a very special way on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
A single red bicycle represents the hundreds of cyclists injured while riding on Pennsylvania roadways. A short program, placing of flowers at the white bikes and private moments of silence and reflections.
We ride in silence
Everyone is invited to ride. Helmets required. Please wear a black and /or red armband in solidarity for the loss of cyclists and those who have been injured. (easily made from a piece of cloth or sock)
We welcome non riders to meet us at the Capitol steps.
There is no cost, fund raising or sponsors. We are being endorsed by Pedego of Harrisburg who is helping with some of the out-of-pocket expenses. They bear NO responsibility for the ride. By endorsing it, they are simply stating they believe in the message. We are looking for a resource to donate flowers and help with the cost of a police escort.
