Greetings everyone!

It looks like Blue Mountain Velo's largest fundraiser is just around the corner on Saturday, July 15.

In case you missed last year, we had 300+ racers from 13 different states. The craft fair and food truck festival drew over 2,000 people from the local community. This event is poised to be a premier event in Central Pennsylvania and will really put BMV in the spotlight!

Your participation in racing or volunteering is very helpful.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The City of Harrisburg marked National Bike Month with Mayor Wanda Williams joining children for a bike ride through Riverfront Park.

For those who didn’t have a bike, Recycle Bicycle was on hand with bikes for anyone wishing to borrow one.

Mayor Wanda Williams said, “I wanted to learn how to ride a bike again, I haven’t rode a bike in 50 years so it’s an opportunity now to come out and ride the bikes and enjoy the day.”

Ross Willard, Chief Mechanical Operator for Recycle Bicycle said, “They rode up to the civic center and back just to show that this beautiful park is fun to ride in.”

Recycle Bicycle also handed out bike safety information to children and parents.

Happy holidays! Come join me on this leisurely paced walk where we’ll see one of the most beautifully decorated neighborhoods in the area. We’ll walk for about an hour and then have the option of going to Jo Jo-s Pizza for food and beverages afterwards.

Start time: 6:15 p.m.

Place: Fisher Park, 2000 Fisher Road (not to be confused with Friendship Park which is nearby)

Distance: 2-3 miles, with options for shorter distances

I recommend bringing a flashlight and wearing reflective clothing, such as your HBC vest.

Socializing afterwards at JoJo’s Pizza, 2210 Aspen Drive, Mechanicsburg. Please note that this is NOT the Jo Jo’s in downtown Mechanicsburg. Someone winds up at the wrong restaurant every year.

Watch the HBC calendar in case there is a cancellation due to bad weather or contact me directly. Marilyn Chastek 717-798-4537 mchastek2009@gmail.com

Hope to see you there!

November 5 and 70 degree weather expected for today, what a great day for fall cleanup! We started off with 4 people for a hearty meal at Diener’s. At 9:00, we had a total of 8 volunteers, 4 first timers to cleanup. Mary Beth Yasandritz got an early start and had half Texaco Road cleaned up before the other 7 arrived.

After 18 years of cleaning up Texaco Road we picked up 87 cans, 58 plastic bottles and 1 large bag of trash. When will we learn to throw our trash in a can, not out the car window?

Thank you to our participants: Robin Rawdon, Susan Sleighter, Mary Beth Yasandritz, Edith Eckerle, Susan Tussey, Grace House, Tim and Cindy Hoehn.

We will have Ride Leader Training in 2020! We had already been looking at improving the accessibility of the training, and the pandemic made that even more necessary. So, our next offering will likely be an online Ride Leader Training module that can be accessed by anyone who needs or wants the training at any time. We’re hoping to have this done by the end of August.

Remember that if your Ride Leader Training certification lasts until the end of the 3rd year after you completed the training. So, if you completed Ride Leader Training at any time in 2017 you are still certified until December 31, 2020.

Training Leader: Chris Wright

Can You Help Park Bikes at Artiest During Memorial Weekend?

It’s that time of year again when we get to meet the world at River Front Park during ArtsFest.

Recycle Bicycle will be parking bikes, doing minor repairs and promoting biking in general on the North and South ends of this 3 day festival. You do not need to be a super mechanic to help out – Just Friendly.

We are using sign up genius with 1 hour increments to get a handle on who is coming.

Ride your bike and avoid the hassle of parking yourself – remember meters are live on Saturday - the island costs money – but any state spot at the Capitol is free.

Come out and be an Advocate plus enjoy the ArtsFest.

Meeting locations are Front & Forster and Front & Walnut.

Use this link to sign up

AAA Central Penn's 24-Hour Emergency Roadside Assistance program includes members' bicycles. Most people are familiar with AAA's Roadside Assistance program: when a member's automobile doesn't start, breaks down, or otherwise becomes inoperable, AAA will arrive on-scene to tow the automobile to a repair facility or the owner's home. Now, similar coverage applies to bicycles. AAA will send a light-duty service vehicle - equipped with a bicycle rack - to take you and your bike to a repair facility or your house. This Bicycle Service works like any other roadside call and is available to all members, anywhere in the AAA Central Penn territory. There is no sign-up or enrollment. Members can use any of their allotted yearly service calls for bicycle roadside assistance.
