Lickdale Trailhead, Swatara Rail Trail
WHEN: Saturday July 5 at 9:00 AM
WHERE:Departure from the Lickdale Trailhead of the Swatara Rail Trail. Note: this is a road ride, not a trail ride.
HOW DO I GET THERE? Navigate to 65 Monroe Valley Rd, Jonestown PA, then go 0.1 miles West. You will see a sign on the South side of the road for the Lickdale Trailhead. Go back that road for about 0.4 mile to the parking lot.
ROUTE: Distance 27.4 miles. Elevation gain 1370 ft. We‘ll do a counter-clockwise loop that will skirt past Fort Indiantown Gap, go through Jonestown and past Blue Mountain View Golf Course, and stop at Lake Strauss.
CLIMBING? Rolling terrain with 2 climbs just over 4%, plus a 6.5% grade up over Lake Strauss Rd. We are going up the Southern side of the climb. The Southern approach is just about the same grade as the Northern approach but it‘s only 1/3 as long.

I am leading the Owen Sunday Social - Location City Island parking lot north of Market Street, arrive at 7:05 AM for a departure at 7:15 AM . This early morning ride is always a lovely time before the heat and traffic! We go at a nice slow speed 9-10 mph for about 75 minutes. We welcome new riders … great opportunity to meet new people, experience group riding , also very qualified people to answer your questions about your bike are on this ride. Helmets required, always suggested to have a tube, tools, hydration , and a snack.

This year‘s HBC picnic will be held at Fort Hunter Park on Front Street in Harrisburg on Sunday, July 13. HBC has rented the east pavilion on the barn side. Rides will be offered in the morning for all levels of rides from D to B, but there‘s plenty to do at the park even if you don‘t ride a bike. There‘s a great playground, a downloadable self-guided walking tour map, tours of the Ft. Hunter Mansion, horseshoe pits and the opportunity to do some boating or tubing on the Susquehanna River. Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. Bring a folding chair, although there is a limited amount of seating available at the picnic tables in the pavilion. You can also bring lawn games or other activities. Relax and have a good time with friends. The pavilion is ours for the whole day.

Join Laura Erb & Karen Wagner on a very scenic Lebanon County Ride of about 29 miles with an elevation gain of 1133‘ (rolling hills but nothing huge.) Pace will be 11-12 mph and no one will be dropped. We will start and end at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center & Fairgrounds on 30 Rocherty Rd. At the end of the ride we will stay for lunch at the fair where you can sample the food, walk around the exhibits, and see the livestock.
